For those of us that script in Second Life the LSL Editor is a time saver. The author of LSL Editor, Alphons van der Heijden, has donated the program to the public domain, it’s now open source. Reference: LSL Editor

LSL Editor allows one to work off-line and to debug scripts outside SL. This can be a huge time saver. Plus the editor has lots of handy features. The latest release is 2.40. It runs only on Windows machines.

Modular Systems, the makers of Emerald Viewer, has announced that they have added LSL Editor into the Emerald Viewer. One can replace the SL script editor with LSL Editor. One must be using Emerald Viewer build 1895 and running on Windows.

There is a small file to download (download page) and install. It is about 1mb, so a quick download. The  install is a click and OK. It too is quick. However, if you already have LSL Editor installed, you can skip the download and install.

Open your Emerald Viewer and select Preferences -> Emerald Tab -> Page 2 tab -> Inventory tab. At the bottom of the dialog is a field for External Editor Binary, this means the LSLEditor.exe file. Click Set to the left of the field and navigate to your install of LSL Editor. If you did the download and install then LSLEditor.exe will be in your Emerald Viewer folder. (On Vista mine is in: C:\Program Files\GreenLife Emerald Viewer\Emerald Viewer Alpha – your may be different.) Click OK and you are good to go.

When you open a script in Emerald the regular SL scripting window will open. Then a command line window pops up for a second and then LSL Editor opens with the script ready to edit. When you save the script, the copy in the SL editor is updated.

Very nice and handy. Thank you Emerald guys…
